The prompt was writing something to a loved one, so I did.
It’s inspired by The Ink Spots’ “I Don’t Want To Set The World on Fire” so read it similarly.
The Way Life Rolls[]

Once upon a fateful day
I told myself “there’s no way”
To have someone
To call my own.
I was young
I was dumb
And clearly thought that I’d
Be happy with no one there.

Once I read an alicorn
I realized that my heart was torn
Between a life
Of one or two.
I settled on
A girl with all
Of that alicorn’s traits.

I met someone in August
But thought they’d just
Be my friend
And nothing more.
Soon I confessed
Then I was blessed
With someone who loved me back.

5 months on
We’re going strong
And I can’t think
Of another one
To take your place.
I’m happy I met you
I’m happy we’re going through
A relationship to call our own.
Because sometimes
That’s the way
Life rolls.
