Sophie, along with Keefe, Fitz, and Linh, were huddled behind a boulder as they waited for the Neverseen member that would surely spot them in a few moments.

Their mission was to bring Tam back to the Black Swan, but things weren’t really going that well. They had already had to send Biana and Dex back due to injuries after a nasty encounter with ten Neverseen agents. The rest of the team didn’t look much better either. They were battered and bruised, cut up and bloody. Things weren’t looking good for them.

They waited apprehensively, holding their weapons close to their chests as they awaited the sharp footsteps of enemies walking towards them. There was complete silence, and that was what made it truly painful. Waiting is always the hardest part, after all.

Finally, they heard footsteps drawing closer. And closer. And closer. Sophie could see the dark black boots of one Neverseen agent. No, there were more. So much more. Sophie counted at least twenty-five.

“We’re so screwed. I’m so screwed. My hair is so screwed,” Keefe whispered.

“Shut up, Keefe. You’re not making this any better,” Fitz hissed softly.

Linh just had a steely look on her face as she prepared herself for the bloodshed that was to come.

“Don’t worry, guys. I have a plan,” Sophie said seriously.

Sophie suddenly darted our from behind the boulder, and the others protested, but still followed.

The Neverseen agents sprung into action as soon as the group was spotted. But Sophie then played her trump card.

It was a gun.

Sophie immediately shot down the Neverseen agents one by one, reloading and firing in rapid succession. After a few seconds, all the Neverseen agents were unconscious or incapacitated.

Sophie blew the hair out from her eyes, “Elves think humans are so primitive, but they fail to acknowledge the fact that they’re willing to fight and partake in violence. And that generally involves very powerful guns.”

Sophie ran towards a building, the Neverseen base in all its dark, edgy glory.
