Summary: Local idiots who've been friends for years get separated during a storm, and while trying to reunite, accidentally discover a gateway to the void.

Disclaimer: Some elements that aren't in the official game, (like natural disasters or new ores,) are included here, but all of them are implied to be from the rift itself, so I hope that's okay.

Chapter 1[]

Charlie had never seen something like this before. She watched with growing concern as the clouds darkened overhead. But this wasn't the relatively benign kind of storm that sometimes visited their small village, it was something entirely different. It seemed almost... unearthly.

Better tell the others about this, she thought.

Suddenly, a bolt of lightning shot out of the dark horizon. But this one was different, it was purple.

Charlie turned around, and ran towards the village center. She pounded her fist on the bell furiously, and watched as the villagers gathered.

"What's the problem?" Nicholas said sharply, once everyone arrived. Like everyone else, he had a specific appearance, that he could change at will to pretty much anything. Right now he was in his default form, a thin, prepubescent boy with olive skin, blond hair, and brown eyes.

"Hrmm." Franklin, a villager, responded. The four of them had learned how to communicate only a couple of... years after they had arrived in this world. It had been very difficult to do anything when the villagers kept mumbling at you.

The villagers still preferred their native tongue, so Charlie and the others only spoke in their shared Villager language when absolutely necessary.

"There's a storm brewing a little ways off the coast, and it feels weird to me. And get this, the lightning is purple."

Columbine, one of the other people who had appeared in this world with Charlie and Nicholas, rolled her bright pink eyes. "Seriously, Charles? Just because we've never seen it before, doesn't mean it's a danger."

Brian and Morgan, the other two residents, arrived at that moment. "What's going on?"

"Morgan!" Columbine yelled. She gathered herself. "Charlie thinks that the weird thunderstorm in the east is dangerous, so we're proving her wrong." Columbine's default form was a dark-skinned youth with pink eyes and charcoal-black hair tied up in a bun.

"I don't know., Cola, I'm getting bad vibes off this storm too.". Nicholas said.

"Can we back up a bit?" Brian said. "If there's a thunderstorm, shouldn't we all go to sleep so we don't summon any mobs?"

"We can handle a couple skeletons." Morgan said. "Nicholas, how long until the storm hits us?"

"I calculate... about half a day."

"That's plenty of time then. Everyone, make sure you have a stable shelter for when it hits, and we should be just fine."

"Can you guys please listen to me?" Charlie said. "This is different than other thunderstorms! What if there's unforeseen consequences, or we all die, or-"

Morgan put a hand on Charlie's shoulder. "If anything happens, make a creeper noise and we'll go to the escape tunnel we built. It's gonna be okay."

And Charlie could almost believe it.

Chapter 2[]

Columbine woke up to a tremendous banging and crashing. She looked outside the door of her two-story house, and saw a massive crowd of zombies and creepers.

The sky had turned a deep, rich purple, and every now and then, bolts of purple lightning shot down and struck the ground, leaving strange black fire.

"Wait a second.." Columbine said, thinking out loud. "Didn't Nicholas say we had a half day before it hit us?"

"Yep." said the creeper behind her.

Columbine jumped a mile. "Ack!"

The creeper removed its head, revealing a grinning Charlie. "Say I was right."

"Okay... you were right." Columbine said grudgingly. "Now fill me in."

"For sure. So, the storm hit us much earlier than we thought. Like any other thunderstorm, it made more mobs spawn. We all had to put on some makeshift creepers costumes so we could get to you. Franklin got struck by this weird purple lightning and we haven't seen him since, but everyone else is safe."

Columbine's stomach went cold. "Is Franklin... dead?"

"I don't know." Charlie said.

"So what do we do now?" Columbine asked.

"We were just about to decide that as soon as you woke up. Thank goodness you're a light sleeper." Her orange eyes flashed in a teasing way.

"If you don't mind, I'm quickly going to let everyone in... the villagers are staying in their houses for now." Charlie said.

Charlie went downstairs, donning her costume in case any real creepers tried to get in.

Once they had tested everyone to make sure they were for real, Nicholas took off his creeper helmet. "These storms can't have come from nowhere. Why don't we try to track down where they come from?"

"Seems too risky." Brian said. "Why don't we wait it out until something more serious happens?"

""Why don't we reinforce our defense system so this doesn't happen again, and then track down the source if anything more serious happens?" Morgan said.

"Sounds like a good plan." Charlie said.

Brian nodded.

"I agree." said Nicholas.

"Alright." Columbine said.
