If you're wondering what this is, it's basically a video web series that I'm planning to do after the quarantine thing is over. Here's the synopsis and some notes:
It’s 2006, and friends and grownups Archie Otto Gist and Dillon Reed are playing theWii for thefirst time. At some point, they get into a heated argument over if old or new games are better, which leads to Dillon practically kicking Archie out of his house. Archie dies in a car accident a few months later, and instead of mourning for him, Dillon decides to do something...different.
Fourteen years later, Archie wakes up in a sarcophagus. When he gets out, he sees with the aid of a mirror that he’s all bandaged up like a mummy, and that he’s also in what seems to be Dillon’s basement??
Archie also finds a lot of games in Dillon’s basement, with all of them being seemingly old. Archie recognizes some of them as bad, but he doesn’t recognize others at all.
Suddenly, Archie hears Dillon’s voice echo throughout the basement, laughing evilly and saying that at last, his former friend has awoken!
Dillon then goes on a rant that basically boils down to “All these years, I’ve been trying to figure out how to make you eat the words that you said about how old games are better than the recent ones! Well, now I’ve finally figured out how! After going to Egypt and getting the right necromancy tools, and then taking countless years out of my life to figure out what the ancient Egyptian text actually meant, I have finally found a way to raise you from the dead!”
And when a very confused and terrified Archie tries to put in his own two cents about the matter-
“Oh, you think that’s all of it? I haven’t even gotten to the part about how I plan to prove you wrong about old games by forcing you to play bad, old games!”
“What.” Archie says flatly.
Dillon responds to that by then explaining that he’s going to make Archie play bad old games until he’s forced to admit that new games are better, even though Archie didn’t ask him to explain that like, at all, really.
But, yeah. Archie’s basically stuck in Dillon’s basement playing bad, old video games until he cracks, with Archie only really having his sense of humor and sarcasm to keep his sanity intact.
Of course, like The Shovelwarewolf, I’m thinking that Archie eventually escapes(somehow) and this leads to things escalating like, a lot. I’m not quite sure how, though.
I also don’t think that the style of humor will be exactly like The Shovelwarewolf. I’m imagining that the style of humor would probably be like MST3K, but with video games? Maybe?? There would also be lots of banter between Archie and Dillon. Well, I think so, at least.
I would love to get some feedback and ideas for this!
I was originally going to make Archie eventually look forward to riffing on the games, but then I realized that if he’s going to escape Dillon’s basement, he’s probably not going to enjoy it so much that he doesn’t want to escape.
Also, the main characters of MST3K enjoyed riffing on the movies they watched, but not so much that they looked forward to it. They still wanted to escape the Satellite of Love.
Also, playing bad video games doesn’t sound like a fun time to be had at all.
I’ve got to figure out if I want to either do opening narration for the series or not, and, if I do, make it similar to The Shovelwarewolf’s or just do something entirely different with it.
ANUBIS!! Honestly, I’ve got to figure out if he’s:
An antagonist, forcing Archie to play more bad video games for some bizarre reason.
An eventual deuteragonist, being forced to play bad video games with Archie.
A drinker of coffeeeeeeeee-
Not going to appear at all.
Going to show up at the end of the web series in order to guide Archie back to the afterlife.
One of my(current) headcanons is that Archie is a bit of a troll to Dillon(for good reason), and is also a bit of a guile hero, escaping Dillon’s basement all by himself through trickery at the end of the first(or second) season.
Maybe Archie has a British accent, even in mummy form? I don’t know.
I also think that Archie is(at least) a bit calmer than The Shovelwarewolf, though some of it might be Archie refusing to get riled up so Dillon doesn’t get a kick out of his misery. There are probably some moments when Archie gets so fed up he just has to rant, though.
(“This game is so aggravating, that if I still had hair, I would be pulling it out right now!!” *groans angrily*)
The above is an idea for one of Archie’s lines, by the way.
Maybe in this universe, there was a shunned cult back during Ancient Egyptian times that had wanted to revive the dead(specifically, their deceased loved ones), and Dillon uses what remained of them(like their relics) in order to revive Archie? Maybe??
Adding onto that, maybe after Dillon’s taken care of, the next main villain is a descendant of that cult, and he’s making Archie play bad video games because he’s trying to distract him from his true goal:figuring out how to use Archie’s life force in order to achieve eternal life(or something like that).
I was going to have this world inhabited by all sorts of mythological creatures, deities, and heroes, but I’ve decided that only having people and things(and more) from Ancient Egyptian mythology is enough.
What parts of Ancient Egyptian mythology I should include and which I shouldn’t is currently up for debate, however.
Even though the synopsis says that both Archie and Dillon are adults, I’m probably going to have to change them to teenagers if I recruit people from the Drama Club, because at least most of them are teenagers.
Also, there might be a chance of either Archie or Dillon(probably Dillon more than Archie at this point) being played by a girl if:
I decide that I want to play either of them.
A girl completely rocks the part for either of them and I just have to include her.
2’s more likely to happen than 1, to be honest, because it would be unfair if I took one of the only two existing acting roles(well, more acting roles don’t exist right now, at least) just because I’ve been dying to act out something.
If a girl gets the part of Archie/Dillon, we are absolutely not going to make the now genderbent Archie/Dillon overly sexualized because:
I am extremely uncomfortable with that idea.
In (genderbent)Archie’s case, it wouldn’t make any sense for a mummy(female or otherwise) to be scantily clothed because there would be barely any skin to show off(due to all of the bandages) and the skin that she does show off would probably at least be rotting away a bit.
These two(Archie and Dillon) will probably be changed to teenagers, and that means that they’re probably going to be minors. I don’t know about you, but I am not going to overly sexualize a minor.
I’ll miss the pun of Archie’s full name(Archie Otto Gist -> archaeologist) if we make him into a female, though.
I was going to make Archie an archaeologist, but if I change both him and Dillon into teenagers, I’m probably going to make Archie want to be an archaeologist when he grows up before he dies instead.
These are really cool ideas! Some questions, are you going to put Archie in games that actually exist irl, or are you going to make it up? Is it all going to be Egyptian themed or are you going to put him in various types of dungeons (Aztec, castle, a futuristic spaceship, for example)?
on a slightly unrelate note, i love reading trollish characters lol
The creator of the drama club said that he'll ask his theatre students if they're interested, but then he said that he's not sure that they can fit all of my requirements. Hopefully I cleared up with him that they don't need to.
